Entry Requirements

Entry at 13+ into Year 9 is on the basis of performance in an entrance exam and at interview.

We are unable to offer any Scholarships for entry into year 9 at Bancroft’s in September 2018; all 13+ places will be offered on a full fee paying basis.  We do have limited places available to join this year group.

Entrance Exam

All applicants sit two 75 minute papers in Mathematics and English (comprehension and essay).   Candidates who do well in these examinations are invited for interview.

The purpose of our entrance processes is not to make Bancroft’s more academically selective, but to help us make offers on a controlled basis to candidates we feel will benefit most from the education we can offer. We receive many more applications than we have places.  Some candidates may be placed on a waiting list following the examination and interview and may be offered places if vacancies arise.

Interviews

Successful candidates are called back for interview following the examination; a report from the candidate’s current school will be taken into account.  Interviews are conducted by a team of Senior School staff, with candidates being interviewed in pairs.  The interviews are primarily academic and do not need special preparation, but it may useful if candidates can talk about how they enjoy spending their time, and describe any particular achievements or interests.

Places are offered on the basis of candidates reaching a satisfactory standard in the written examinations, their interview and receipt of an up-to-date school report.

Applications

To apply for a place in Year 9 starting in September 2018, candidates must complete and submit a registration form before 31 January 2018; it may not be possible to process applications received after this date.

A single (non-returnable) registration fee of £60 is required. Cheques should be made payable to Bancroft’s School.  A copy of the candidate’s birth certificate or passport must accompany all applications.

Please note that on receipt of an application, we contact the candidate’s present school for a reference and you may wish to inform them of your application before they hear from us.
