U13 Cricket Champs
On Thursday 5 July, the Removes (year 8) boys won the Under 13 Essex Cricket Cup, defeating Southend Boys High School in the final.
In terms of the match, Bancroft’s made an excellent start with opening bowlers Haaris Sohoye and Tom Oliver capturing five wickets for 24 runs in the first six overs. The Captain Angad Nijjar then introduced himself and Jonny Bluff, as spinners, to press home our advantage and further wickets tumbled as the opposition were dismissed for 34 runs. In reply, the Southend opening bowlers were hostile and accurate and they did create more than a little havoc when they captured our first two wickets on six runs. Nevertheless, opening bat Will Hopkins ably assisted by Murali “The Wall” Satchithananda steadied the ship and saw off the full ten overs of the two Southend strike bowlers, by which point the Bancroft’s team had regained their composure and we pressed on to seal an eight wicket victory.
Above all, with four bowlers taking wickets, two batters contributing crease occupation and scoring vital runs and catches from two other players, it was a team effort which augurs well for future years.
