FAQ for New Joiners
What are the timings of the school day?
The school is open for pupils from 07:45. Early arrivals can enjoy breakfast in school (for a small charge). Morning registration is at 08.20. Lessons finish at 15:45 and the school site closes at 18:00. All pupils should have left by18:00 unless they are involved in a supervised activity.
The library is open both before and after school for study purposes. Unless children are involved in an organised activity, they should be in the library if they are on the school site after the end of the school day. Pupils are not encouraged to linger at school without a reason.
What does my child do if they are late to school?
Everyone is late from time to time! Any late arrivals must sign the register in the school office and then go straight to their tutor group or to assembly/chapel.
If a child is persistently late for registration, their form tutor will follow this up with parents/carers and a sanction may be imposed.
Who do I contact if my child is ill?
You should contact the school office before 08:20 to explain their absence.

You will need to contact the school each morning your child continues to be unwell.
If your child is absent for more than one day, this must be evidenced by a written note or email from a parent/carer.
If your child has experienced vomiting, please wait 24 hours after symptoms have passed before sending them back to school.
What happens if my child becomes ill during the school day?
We have a full-time nurse at Bancroft’s. If your child becomes unwell during the school day they will be directed to see her. She will contact you if she thinks your child needs to go home. Children may not self-diagnose and call parents/carers to collect them without permission from the Nurse.
What do I do if my child has special dietary requirements or food allergies?
Please inform the School Nurse of any dietary requirements or food allergies your child may have or develop during their time here at school. This will be recorded on their school medical records. Where necessary, a meeting can be arranged with our catering staff to discuss any dietary requirements and, depending on the severity of food allergy, you may be asked to complete, sign and return a ‘Severe Allergy Care Plan’ or ‘Non Severe Allergy Care Plan’ .
Please note we have a strict no nut policy at school and products containing nuts must not be brought into school at any time.

What happens if my child loses something at school?

The School cannot accept responsibility for items lost or stolen. It is inappropriate for pupils to bring expensive items or large sums of money into school.
Valuables, including phones, must be placed in lockers prior to Games or PE.
Will my child have a locker?
Yes. It will be a small locker in or near their tutor room which will enable them to store text and exercise books and mobile devices. It will not be suitable for storing their PE kit but they will be able to wear their school sports kit to school on the day they have PE or Games.
