Home Learning Requirements
Bancroft’s delivered a full online timetable during the Covid lockdowns with tutor time & lessons over Microsoft Teams and communications through our virtual learning platform (VLE). Whilst we hope that we will not have to revert to this again, it is important that all pupils are able to work from home and pupils will be expected to access their homework assignments on the VLE and homework increasingly requires the use of IT.
The specification for accessing online learning is as follows:
- Windows 10
- Intel or AMD processor
- 4GB RAM (ideally 8GB)
- 128GB SSD Hard Disk
- Integrated Webcam (additional forward-facing camera not essential but occasionally useful)
- A touchscreen and a stylus (laptop or 2in1 is suitable); some models come with a stylus; some require that to be purchased separately
(Examples of suitable hardware : Surface Go 2 M3; Acer TravelMate Spin B3; Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5; Lenovo Yoga Windows10 models incorporating touch screen and stylus; HP Pavilion x360; HP Envy x360)
Mobile phones are a contentious subject, with different families taking polar opposite approaches in the management of their child’s smart devices. They are an intrinsic part of our world and it is our joint responsibility to help educate our young people to make informed choices.
We expect all pupils to have access to a smart device, in the junior years most families elect for a mobile phone. All homework will be set on the VLE or Microsoft Teams and some lessons and activities will require the use of apps and the internet.
We strongly recommend that you monitor and limit your child’s use of their devices, especially their use of social media.
When pupils join us in September, they will be allocated their personal log-in for the school IT system. They will be required to sign our E-Charter to confirm that they understand the importance of the safe and responsible use of electronic communication. Please read the Acceptable Use Policy here:
