Your 16+ Admissions Journey
We would be delighted to welcome you to Bancroft’s Sixth Form. Whether you attend an Open Event or book a private tour, there’s no better way to experience the energy and warmth of our community.
Our Sixth Form Open Evening has now taken place, but we would be delighted to arrange a private tour for you. Please contact our Admissions team at admissions@bancrofts.org.
After visiting Bancroft’s, if you would like to apply for a place, the first step is to register by completing our online application form. This includes a non-refundable registration fee of £150 (inclusive of VAT). As part of the process we will also contact your child’s current school for a personal reference.
Students wishing to join in September 2026 must register by Friday 10 October
Entry to the Sixth Form is on the basis of performance in an entrance exam and at interview. Students joining our Sixth Form at 16+ will need to be academically capable and hardworking as well as socially able to make the most of being in our Sixth Form; they will also need a firm foundation of success at GCSE.
In practice they should expect to gain a significant number of 8 or 9 grades. We are looking for a minimum of five 8 or 9 grades at GCSE, and at least an 8 in the subjects they wish to study in the Lower Sixth (Year 12).
Our Assessment Day for September 2026 entry will take place at Bancroft’s on Friday 31 October
Entrance tests take place in late October or early November before admission, when candidates are in Year 11.
All applicants will sit an online aptitude test of around 45 minutes along with two one-hour exams, from a choice of the subject areas below.
Exams should be in subjects which the candidate is studying at GCSE Level and intending to take for A level or subjects which relate to those that will be taken.
Applicants nominate the two subject areas on which they would like to be examined by indicating their choices on the application form.
Specific revision is not required and the questions will be appropriate to all GCSE exam boards and syllabus.
* Candidates wanting to take Mathematics A level must sit the Mathematics entrance paper.
Students who have opted for Further Maths will sit an assessment early in the first half term that gauges their mathematical readiness for the Further Maths A Level course.
Successful candidates will be called back for interview later in November.
Interviews for selected candidates will take place on Saturday 15 November
Candidates called for interview for Art will be required to bring with them a portfolio showing their recent work.
Offers, conditional upon GCSE grades, will be made via email in early December, with the deadline to accept in early January.
An Offer Holders’ event will be held before the acceptance deadline, giving you another opportunity to meet a wider range of staff and pupils and enjoy further tours of the school.
We are looking to admit around 20 external applicants at our 16+ entry point.
