Rugby

Head of Rugby: Mr Rob Faiers

Rugby is the major boys’ sport played during the autumn term. The Senior School is able to field up to seven rugby teams at weekends. Home games are played at West Grove and each Saturday there is a full fixtures’ list with games played against local school with many year groups fielding A and B teams.

The U15 squad enters the NatWest Cup. At junior level, A and B teams represent the School at U13 and U12 level during Saturday and Wednesday fixtures. The junior fixture card includes blocks against some of the best independent, grammar and state schools in the area.

Bancroft’s rugby players are regularly selected for county (Essex and Middlesex) squads. Old Bancroftian Andy Saul has played for England Saxons, Saracens, Newcastle and is now playing for Leeds a recent Captain was a player with the Wasps Academy,

Bancroft’s rugby teams regularly tour overseas, with recent trips to the Far East (2005, 2008, and 2011), Canada (2014) and South Africa (2017). Whilst many of the senior tours are long haul, the School also offers shorter tours for the junior and the middle schools, with the U12 boys touring Wales at the end of the autumn term.

We believe that any young man who commits to rugby will develop as a person through being part of the team.
