Head of Girls’ Hockey: Mrs Jo Fryer-Green
Head of Boy’s Hockey: Mr Daniel Webster
Both boys and girls participate in hockey: girls in the autumn term and boys in the spring term. Both have training sessions during games afternoons and after school, with a regular programme of fixtures against local schools throughout the week and on Saturdays.
We are very lucky at Bancroft’s to have access to such a prestigious venue as Old Loughtonians Hockey Club (the Olympic training venue for London 2012), where we both train and play matches.
We regularly have both boys’ and girls’ team in action in the Essex cup and over the past years have had many teams, particularly at U18 and U16 level, progressing to the East of England regional play offs. In 2020, our U18 girls reached the finals of the national schools’ T4 competition in which they took silver medals.
Hockey tours regularly take place, with recent destinations being to Singapore & Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Barcelona. Girls’ senior tours are organised jointly with netball and they have toured to South Africa (2013), Australia (2000), Singapore and Malaysia (2016) and Barbados (2019). In addition, junior players have travelled to the Netherlands for a mini tour at Easter and to Barcelona in October.
Bancroft’s players are involved throughout the player pathway of the England Single System, from Essex Junior Regional Development Centres upwards through playing at international level. We have recently had a good number of players selected for the National U16 and U18 teams representing England and also Wales.
