Head of Tennis: Miss Mandy Wainwright

We regularly field U12, U13, U14 and U15 girls' and boys' teams, and the seniors enter the U18 AEGON Team Tennis Tournament. Home matches take place at West Grove on our seven hard courts.

Our regular friendly fixtures are against schools such as Chigwell, Forest, Highgate, Queenswood and New Hall. Inter-House competitions are run for each year group and we also enter eight boys’ and girls’ teams into the Year 8 and 10 AEGON Team Tennis Tournaments which gives many of our pupils the opportunity to play singles as well as doubles. We send a girls team to play in the Queenswood East Region Tournament each year and we end each summer term with an Inter-Year Doubles Championships, which sees pupils ranging from the Prep School to the 6th form engaging in a friendly competition.

Since 2017 we have also run a “Road To Wimbledon” singles tournament for boys and girls which has proved very popular. It is the biggest junior tournament in British tennis and gives all U14 players the opportunity to progress through to compete on the world famous grass courts at Wimbledon.

Bancroft’s has been blessed with many national and international standard players over the decades, some of who progressed to play on the professional world circuit. Currently, our highest LTA rated pupils are Anthony Wright (4.1) who is currently the Essex U14 number 1 and 23 in Great Britain, Raya Uzunova (6.1), Alina Schumacher (6.1) and David Nana (6.2.).

Our aim is to make tennis fun for everyone, whether they are complete beginners, club players or aspiring to represent Essex or Great Britain. The social side of the game is as rewarding as the competitive side and the Bancroft’s Tennis Club prides itself on being open to all ages and ability levels.

11+ Open Morning & resumption of Minibus service

On Saturday 16 November, we are holding our final 11+ Open Morning for entry to Bancroft’s in September 2020.  Refreshments will be served from 9.30am onwards before introductory talks at 10am.  Pupil led tours will follow and there will be plenty of chances to talk to staff.  We look forward to meeting you on Saturday.

We are pleased to advise you that the roadworks directly outside the school have now concluded and the resulting traffic congestion has therefore eased. As a result we will be restoring the Loughton Minibus Service to it’s normal time with immediate effect, from Wednesday 13th November onwards it will be in the Sainsbury’s Car Park at Loughton Station from 7.45am and will depart promptly at 8am.
