Netballers Progress to Regionals

Sunday’s sunshine saw a very exciting County (Essex Met) Round of the National Schools Netball Tournament held at Redbridge Sports Centre.  The U19 group was relatively straightforward; we went into the final game unbeaten to face an equally placed Barking Abbey.  Both teams had won all their games to this point and had, therefore, both qualified for the Regional Round.  Barking Abbey won, leaving Bancroft’s as runners up.  The U16 had lost only to Robert Clack, but were drawn against an unbeaten Forest team in the last match.  Bancroft’s emerged the winners of a very close game, leaving three teams in the position of each losing one game.  On goal difference Bancroft’s were declared the group runners up.  The U14 group was equally close, again four or five teams could have won, but once again Bancroft’s girls made it through as runners up.  The standard of netball throughout the day was very high.  The girls now go onto the Regional Round on 29 January at Redbridge Sports Centre.

The long journey made by the U19s to play St Catherine’s in the second round of the Independent Schools Cup proved to be well worth it.  It was a terrific game and an illustration of the strength of the U19 squad.  Bancroft’s were the eventual winners: 40-35.  The game also provided a useful warm up for Sunday’s County Round of the Nationals for both teams, as  St Catherine’s were playing the Surrey round.
