A Level Student Spotlight: Matthew Secures Full Scholarship to Royal College of Music
As Matthew prepares to begin his studies at the Royal College of Music, having earned a full scholarship, we caught up with him —right in the middle of rehearsals for his performances at the Proms, no less!
Whether he’s been performing or conducting, Matthew has filled the past 11 years at Bancroft’s with music. Seeing him evolve as a musician has been a genuine pleasure.
Reflecting on his eleven years at Bancroft’s, Matthew shared, “My journey at Bancroft’s has been nothing short of incredible. The school has been a place where my intellectual curiosity was constantly nurtured, and my creativity was encouraged to flourish in every possible way.”
“The music department, in particular, became a second home for me. Whether I was performing solo recitals, conducting major projects, or singing my favourite operatic arias, I felt truly alive and inspired.”
As he looks ahead to his studies at the Royal College of Music, Matthew remains grateful for the strong foundation Bancroft’s has provided. “I’m incredibly excited to start the next part of my musical journey, but I will always be grateful to my teachers at Bancroft’s,” he noted. “They nurtured not only my passion for music but also my academic pursuits across all fields.”
Matthew’s academic success has been equally impressive, achieving A* grades in Music, History, and an A in French. “I’m thankful for the balance that Bancroft’s encouraged—between rigorous academics and creative exploration. It’s a balance I will carry with me as I move forward,” he said.
As Matthew prepares for this exciting new chapter, Bancroft’s celebrates his remarkable accomplishments and looks forward to seeing him shine on the world stage. “I can’t wait to continue growing as a musician and make the most of this incredible opportunity,” Matthew concluded.
