A Level Student Spotlight: Solomiya’s Journey to Warwick
Two years ago, Solomiya joined Bancroft’s from Ukraine on a full bursary. The transition to a new country, a different education system, and studying in her third language could have been overwhelming, but Solomiya’s experience has been nothing short of transformative.
Solomiya’s time at Bancroft’s became a period of personal and academic exploration. Reflecting on her time here, she says, “Arriving from Ukraine two years ago, I faced many challenges, but the support and encouragement I received from staff and my peers made all the difference. The school quickly became a second home, where I not only adapted to a new education system but also grew in ways I never imagined. I’m incredibly grateful for the sense of belonging and the opportunities provided, which have shaped both my academic journey and personal growth.”
One of Solomiya’s standout moments came during Visitation Day, when she received a bursary from members of the Drapers’ Company.
“I was honoured to receive a bursary, which has given me a tremendous opportunity to grow and succeed in the future. This moment was not only a recognition of my hard work but also a significant step towards achieving my goals.”
The staff here was incredibly supportive, with teachers who genuinely care about your success and personal growth. I could come to them for help whether it was concerned with the language, new topic or something personal.
As she prepares to study Mathematics at the University of Warwick, Solomiya is excited about the future. Her aspirations extend beyond her own academic achievements, as she hopes to use her education to build stronger ties between Ukraine and the UK. “Given my personal background and the current global landscape, I believe there is a significant opportunity to build bridges between the two countries.”
