A Level Student Spotlight: Sports Fields to Bristol Halls
For Oscar, Bancroft's was where his passion for rugby took off. From day one, he threw himself into every match and practice, discovering a rugby community that shaped his time at school.
“Rugby was a huge part of my time at Bancroft’s,” Oscar reflects. “I’ve been on the team throughout my years here, and it’s taught me so much about teamwork, resilience, and pride.”
One of his most memorable moments was during his final season, when a narrowly lost match left the whole team—and their coach—fighting back tears. “Even though we didn’t win, the emotions we all shared made me incredibly proud to wear the Bancroft’s top,” he says, emphasising the deep bonds and life lessons forged on the field.
“Consider Bancroft’s not just for the academics, but for the community and friendships you’ll form here. Those are the things that really make a difference.”
As the time came to think about life after Bancroft’s, Oscar initially found it challenging to decide on a university course. However, through the school’s comprehensive careers support, including university visits and careers days, he discovered a passion for Mechanical Engineering. “Before these events, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study, but they helped me find a course that really suits me,” he says.
Oscar also speaks highly of the support he received during the university application process. “Mr. Harrison and Mrs. Prescott-Morrin made everything so much easier,” he says. “Their guidance was really helpful, especially during the more difficult parts of the application process.”
