A Levels 2021
After what has been an extraordinary past eighteen months, we congratulate our 2021 leavers on achieving an excellent set of A Level results. These have been achieved after our U6th have endured the strangest and most interrupted Sixth Form experience since the wartime generation of Bancroftians. While many have performed at their best under these very difficult conditions, it is not the case that everyone has been able to flourish and we commiserate with those for whom the impact of the past year and a half has been significantly negative.
A Level results this year should not be compared with those achieved in previous years or even with those from other schools – this year each school took a separate path in the process of assessing and grading students. This should not though mean that the achievements of our students are in any way diminished – they have been gained under a rigorous and gruelling process of assessment and each result is hard-won and has full validity.
The vast majority of the year group have secured their places at their firm or insurance choice of university, with 123 accepting their firm choice and further four their conditional offer. As usual we see Bancroftians heading off to a wide range of universities such as St Andrew’s, Durham, Imperial College, Exeter, Warwick, UCL, Edinburgh and Nottingham. The courses they have chosen are wide ranging and include maths, law, English, economics, engineering, geography, classics, Chinese, music production, computer sciences and interior design. We are delighted that 18 pupils will be studying medicine or dentistry this year and two will be taking Art Foundation courses. Particular congratulations to the ten Bancroft’s students who have successfully achieved their Oxbridge offers for 2021.
This year-group has shown tremendous resilience and fortitude to cope with the uncertainties and interruptions of the past 18 months and we wish them all the very best for the future.Simon Marshall, Head
