An Evening of Choral Music
On Saturday 30th November, the Great Hall was filled with the beautiful sounds of Vivaldi’s Gloria in D, performed by the Bancroft’s Singers and Community Choir, alongside the talented Bancroft’s Sinfonia.
Under the skilled direction of Julia Whitbread (Director of Music), this iconic choral masterpiece was brought to life in a performance that truly showcased the extraordinary talent within our school and wider community.
The evening featured stunning solo performances by Inge-Lise Nygaard and Yolanda Grant-Thompson, both of whom have an impressive background in vocal performance. Their voices captivated the audience, adding a rich depth to Vivaldi’s ever-popular work, which was first composed for an orphanage choir in 18th-century Venice and rediscovered only in the 20th century. Hearing it performed in our Great Hall was an experience to savour.
The programme didn’t stop there. Our pupil choirs delivered a variety of moving and uplifting pieces, from There Is No Rose by Joubert to a powerful rendition of Too Sweet by Hozier. It was a true celebration of choral music, with something for every member of the audience to enjoy.
These events wouldn’t be possible without the incredible team behind the scenes. A special thanks to Cathy Davies for her superb rehearsal piano accompaniment, Laura Harrison for managing Front of House, and the Parents’ Association for keeping everyone refreshed with their excellent hospitality.
This concert continues Bancroft’s proud tradition of choral music, following our previous performances of The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins and Requiem by Fauré.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and supported our musicians on the evening—it’s always a pleasure to share such special performances with our community.
