Lana_Mawlood

Congratulations to Lana Mawlood (3E) and Charlie Blake (L6W) who have both been shortlisted in their age categories in The Young Human Rights Reporter of the Year competition organised by Amnesty and promoted by The Guardian. Entrants were required to research and write newspaper-style articles on a Human Rights issue.  There were over 3,000 entries nationwide in the three secondary age categories of which ten entries have been shortlisted in each category.  Lana wrote movingly on the subject of human trafficking and modern slavery.  She said “I’m really pleased that I have come this far. I’m happy to be able to raise awareness for human rights and to give a voice to those denied of one.”  Charlie wrote on the fate of the Chagos islanders and commented, “I feel extremely privileged to have been shortlisted for this award;  not only because of Amnesty International’s reputation but also because of the fantastic opportunity they have provided for me to present my views.”
