Bancroft’s Alumnus Reflects on Cambridge Experience Ahead of Oxford PhD

This week's lunchtime talk in the newly refurbished Sixth Form Library drew a crowd of 30 Bancroft's students and 18 guests from local schools, including Roding Valley, Debden Park High, Woodford County, St Paul’s Way, and Chingford Foundation.

The talk was delivered by Alex, an Old Bancroftian who graduated from Cambridge University in 2020 with a First in Mathematics and a distinction in his Master’s. In the first half, Alex shared his experiences studying Maths at Cambridge and provided invaluable advice to prospective students. He then moved on to an intriguing topic in the second half—infectious disease modelling through differential equations, focusing on the SIR model.

It was a valuable session for all who attended. Alex is now headed to Oxford to begin his PhD in Machine Learning and Statistics. We wish him every success!
