Edward’s First International Drone Racing Tournament
We’re thrilled to share the success of one of our very own students, Edward (Year 11), who recently competed in the Military International Drone Racing Tournament (MIDRT) in London.
This exciting event brought together some of the world’s best FPV (First-Person View) drone pilots, including two of the fastest pilots from the US.
Edward had previously honed his drone flying skills through the Bancroft’s DT department, where an introduction to drones sparked his interest. He initially began by flying a prebuilt model before moving on to build his own drones. This passion led him to join a racing club in Hertfordshire, where he further developed his skills.
In his first international competition, Edward qualified 10th and ultimately finished in 12th place out of a field of around 50 pilots. While competing at this level for the first time, Edward expressed how exhilarating it was to race alongside international talent.
“Competing in an international FPV drone race in London was an incredible experience. Racing alongside some of the best pilots from around the world was both challenging and exciting. It’s given me a great experience that I’ll never forget”
Congratulations, Edward, on your impressive achievement, we look forward to collaborating with him on future drone projects at Bancroft’s!
