Cadets Rise to the Challenge at the Biennial Review
On Tuesday 19th March the CCF were delighted to welcome Colonel Charles Thomas DL as the Reviewing Officer for our Biennial Review.
The MOD mandates CCFs are inspected every two years, with other ongoing assurance checks running concurrently through the period. The Review gives Cadets the opportunity to showcase their CCF to the Reviewing Officer, visitors, parents and the wider school community.
During the day Cadets in the L4th to Fifth Form competed in teams for the Biennial Shield and Dan Clack Trophy, rotating through eight activities: an Air Soft Range, Archery Tag, rocket launching with the Royal Artillery Engagement Team, Drill, Skill at Arms, Observation and two Command Tasks. The competition was fierce, competitive, and in good spirits, with 3 Section led by LCpls Jess Freedman and Zaina Alam the eventual winners.
The day ended with the Contingent parading in the Quad, a Guard of Honour taking centre stage ably supported by the Concert Band and Drumline. The Guard of Honour paraded with rifles and Contingent Banners and the Reviewing Officer inspected the Guard. The Contingent then marched past, before moving into the Great Hall for prize giving and a few words from the Reviewing Officer.
The event was a great success. The Cadets did themselves very proud, in particular the Guard of Honour who learnt rifle drill in the space of one month – thanks to SSI Damien. Particular thanks is also due to RSM James and his Sixth Form NCOs, especially CSM Kaitlin and CSgt Nishant, as well as the Sixth Form as a whole for running the activities. Thanks also to all the CCF staff for their ongoing support of the Contingent.
