England Athletics National Indoor Championships Silver for Caitlin

Bancroft’s Lower Fourth (Year 9) pupil Caitlin H had a tremendous start to the recent half term break with a medal winning performance in the England Athletics National Indoor Championships.

Caitlin, who competes for Woodford Green Athletics Club, travelled to the EIS (English Institute of Sport) in Sheffield for the Nationals which were held over the weekend of 11 and 12 February. U20, U17 and U15 age groups were contested, with athletes from England, Scotland, Wales, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland eligible to take part. There were minimum entry standards and Caitlin qualified to compete in the U15 girls’ Long Jump, 200m. and 60m She opted not to take part in the 60m, so she could focus solely on the Long Jump event on the first day of the competition.

In the Long Jump on Saturday 11 February, Caitlin jumped a huge personal best of 5.47m to win the silver medal. Her performance means she’s currently ranked the number 1 U15G long jumper in England, and number 2 in the UK, as the Gold medallist at this event was Welsh

Caitlin also competed in the 200m event on Sunday 12 February.  A personal best of 26.01s in her heat saw her safely through to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, she did not progress further, placing fourth with a time of 26.14 s.  She is currently ranked 9th in England, and 11th in the UK for U15 girls’ 200m.

Huge congratulations to Caitlin on her performance in this event; we look forward to hearing more news of her athletics.
