Record Breaking Results in Physics Olympiad

This year, pupils set a new school record, with 47 participants in the Fifths Physics Online Olympiad - with some amazing results overall.

GOLD: 23 pupils

SILVER: 16 pupils

BRONZE: 8 pupils

A special mention goes to the Zara and Samuel from the Lower Fourths and Arivu from the Thirds who also participated and obtained medals.

Thihansa, who is in the Fifths, shared her thoughts on the experience:

We decided to take advantage of a brilliant opportunity to develop our resilience, creativity, and problem-solving skills, as encouraged by our teachers. From the outset, after voluntarily signing myself up for this fantastic opportunity, the teachers in the Physics department encouraged myself and participants to join in training sessions which occurred every Thursday lunchtime to help us participants familiarise ourselves with the stretch and challenge element of the competition.

The competition consisted of two timed sections, covering topics like heat, mechanics, energy, and bookwork. We also had access to the Isaac Physics resource, which is a useful resource that assisted with my preparation. The communal nature of the training sessions helped everyone build confidence and improve their problem-solving abilities.

I achieved a Bronze and whilst I would have liked to achieve a more notable medal, I am proud of the result and on behalf of the participating cohort I would like to thank Mr Ceeraz and Mr Busch for this opportunity.

Well done to all pupils on their results.

Next up is the Paper Olympiad competition where students will face exam conditions – we are looking forward to hearing how this will go.
