New school record at Removes Inter-house gala

Well done to all Removes who took part in our Inter-house swim gala on Monday March 11th.

Congratulations to North House who were the overall winners of event. School House Girls were the highest scoring girls team and North House Boys were the highest scoring boys team.

A new school record was broken in the 100m Freestyle event. Congratulations Adi! Adi broke George Whalley’s 2013 record by 3 seconds, with a time of 1:08.13. Shenhan just missed out on the wall of fame in the same event. Finishing in second place behind Adi, in a time of 1:10 he also beat the previous record.

Team captains were superb managing their teams and adapting to changes. In addition to their organisation skills all eight captains put in impressive swims.

Well done team captains:

Alisha, Iqra, Olivia and Amara

Adi, Shenhan, Kavin and Nihal

A special note for Amara and School house who were particularly well organised.

Zain had a note worthy swim in the 25m Butterfly. Zain is a really new Butterfly swimmer but shows great promise. 10/10 for effort.

Event 10 was the closest finish of the afternoon with Viraaj, Aahil, Victor and Sulaiman all finishing within 2 seconds of one another. Well done Viraaj who took first place in what was almost a photo finish.

Olivia had a great swim in 50 Backstroke and helped her team gain ground in each of her relays.

Our Lower Fourth Inter-house gala afternoon was hotly contested. In both the girl’s and boy’s galas the lead position switched regularly between North and School Houses.

With just 3 points separating first and second places in both galas it was North House who were victorious overall. Congratulations to all our North House swimmers.

There were some leaking goggles after dive starts during the afternoon. Well done Tristan and Eric who still swam well with uncomfortable eyes.

Lots of swimmers chose to start their races with a dive rather than a push off. Great examples of diving from Hugh who also won his Butterfly event earning 4 points for East House.

There were many personal best times at the gala. Thomas improved by 17 seconds in Backstroke compared to his time when in Thirds. Bea from West house improved her time in the same event by 10 seconds since last year.

Dorothy and Lily were great representatives for North house, with excellent swim performances and cheering.

All swim captains performed well on the day. Hats off to Jocelyn for her leadership and organisational skills as School House girl’s team captain. It was a pleasure to see her encourage her nervous teammates to hop in and warm up and only minutes later she was giving another teammate diving tips. Jocelyn also won her Butterfly event.

Yasmeena, Charlotte, Jessie Mae and Shaan, great swimming all afternoon especially your Medley Relay for East House.
