Pupils Discover Bancroft’s Legacy at Drapers’ Hall
During this year's BeingBancroft’s festival week, our Lower Fourth pupils had the pleasure of visiting Drapers' Hall. This special visit provided a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to explore the artwork and history of this historic venue.
Our pupils enjoyed a delightful lunch and received a guided tour from Penny, the archivist at Drapers’ Hall.
Penny shared some fascinating insights: “We have over 650 years of history. Today, the company’s day-to-day work includes administering charitable trusts that support schools like Bancroft’s, aiding the homeless, supporting ex-servicemen and women, and helping the elderly. This charitable activity makes the company so interesting.”
She continued, “Of course, it’s also a great fellowship with a fraternity of very interesting individuals, bringing real character to the company. The diversity of the institutions we support and the variety of our work make it a lovely, lovely company.”
It was wonderful to see our pupils so engaged with the history of Drapers’ Hall, especially those visiting for the first time.
When asked about Bancroft’s visit, Penny warmly shared, “It is a joy for two reasons. Firstly, it’s brilliant that young people can come to a historic building and realise that it is a home—a grand home, of course, but also a working place. They can have their school concerts here and participate in other activities.’
“It’s wonderful for pupils and for us to connect with the living embodiment of what Francis Bancroft’s legacy means today.”
We are grateful for the opportunity to spend the day at this beautiful location and look forward to returning next year.
