Regional hockey finals for U14 boys

Before half term, the U14 boys’ hockey team played in the Essex Tournament: part of the National Cup. We had already seen our U13s and U18s qualify for the Eastern Regional finals as runners-up in their Essex tournaments, so there were high hopes that the U14s would follow suit.

Throughout the day, the team produced some high quality hockey. The game against Felsted was particularly close but the boys demonstrated that they had the quality to produce openings which allowed them to unlock the oppositions’ defence and they finished the game 1-0 winners. Some sparkling hockey finished against less challenging opponents and convincing wins against Eastwood, The Drapers’ Academy and New Hall saw confidence grow for the big match against Chigwell.  The final score of 1-0 in Bancroft's favour did not reflect on the dominance shown by our boys in a match which saw Chigwell venturing only occasionally into Bancroft’s half.  The day also saw comfortable wins against Forest and Coopers' Coburn.  The boys finished the tournament with the remarkable achievement of having scored over 40 goals without conceding a single one!

The team has deservedly won its place as the number 1 Essex side and will be representing the county in the Eastern Regional round to be played on Thursday 28 February in Lincolnshire. We wish them the very best for this.
