Netball

Head of Netball: Mrs Hannah Marchant

Netball is one of the strongest and most successful sports at Bancroft’s. Training and fixtures take place throughout the autumn and spring terms, with high levels of participation across the school.

Bancroft’s has built an excellent reputation within Essex Met County, the wider region and at national level, with many pupils progressing through county and regional academy pathways. Our aim is simple: to offer high quality netball for all, in an enjoyable environment that also supports those striving to reach the highest levels of the game.

Participation and Fixtures

  • We run an extensive fixture programme against some of the leading netball schools in the area.
  • Teams play during the week and on Saturdays
  • Most age groups field A, B and C teams
  • U12 and U13 often field D and E teams to support wider participation

Weekly training is available for all age groups in the Spring Term, while the National Squad begins additional training in the autumn. Every team has an assigned coach, ensuring focused guidance and strong continuity across the programme.

Competition Structure

The Senior School competes in local, regional and national outdoor competitions at every age group. We also enter county and national knockout cup tournaments. Bancroft’s teams regularly reach advanced stages of the National Schools’ Tournament, with both the U19 and U14 squads historically progressing to the Regional Finals while representing Essex Met. We also take part in the Independent Schools Netball Competition, providing high level competition against schools from across the country.

Every year group also enjoys an inter house tournament at the end of the Spring Term, adding a spirited competitive highlight to the season.

Facilities

Netball at Bancroft’s is supported by excellent facilities, including:

  • One indoor and one outdoor court on site
  • Seven outdoor courts at West Grove, a short distance from school

These facilities allow for regular training, simultaneous fixtures and large squad participation.

Academy Pathways

Our Netball Academy offers year round training for selected players who show exceptional ability and commitment. Many pupils also represent local clubs, play in competitive local leagues or progress to Super League franchise pathways, including London Pulse and Saracens Mavericks.

Tours and Experiences

Enrichment through travel is an important part of the programme. Recent overseas tours have included Barbados, Singapore and Malaysia, and South Africa, while younger teams have enjoyed mini tours to Bath and Manchester. These trips strengthen team culture and provide valuable sporting experience.

A Strong and Growing Programme

Netball at Bancroft’s is a thriving and ambitious part of school life. With high participation, committed coaching and consistent competitive success, the programme continues to grow in strength and reputation each year.
