Supporting Medics with In-House MMI

During my visit to the Imperial Open Day, I participated in a mock MMI (Multiple Mini Interviews) session, which highlighted the importance of realistic interview preparation.

This experience made me acutely aware of the challenges posed by the high costs of professional mock interview services, often amounting to hundreds of pounds. Inspired to create a more accessible alternative, I proposed establishing an in-house MMI circuit at Bancroft’s, a project I am currently leading as president of the Bancroft’s Medical Society.

Our initiative aims to provide an affordable and practical interview preparation platform for students. Recognising the urgency of the January interview season for many medical schools, my dedicated team and I were determined to organise our first mock MMI circuit before the Christmas holidays.

We successfully developed three distinct MMI stations, complemented by a debrief and Q&A session led by guest speaker Ephraim Chappidi. Ephraim, a final-year medical student at Barts and The London with many years of experience mentoring students through the MMI process, also founded the highly regarded UltraLearn POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound) initiative. His contributions were invaluable in adding depth and perspective to our event.

This initiative would not have been possible without the guidance and support of Mr Choy, our Head of Medics, as well as Mrs Hubbard who helped run stations. Both provided invaluable assistance throughout the planning and execution of the event.

Looking ahead, we hope to expand the scheme in January by introducing additional stations, recruiting more interviewers, and securing a larger venue to accommodate a greater number of participants. This event was a team effort and running more sessions in January will allow us to continue providing accessible interview preparation for our peers.
