The Queen Symphony Stuns at Bancroft’s

25th November 2025 Whole School
The Queen Symphony concert on Saturday night opened with a feeling that something special was about to unfold.

From the first notes, Tolga Kashif’s music seemed to gather everyone in the Great Hall into a shared experience, full of moments that drew the whole room in. Performed with care and conviction by our orchestras and choirs, the symphony developed with real warmth, making the atmosphere something truly special.

Our Director of Music, Julia Whitbread, captured the feeling of the night perfectly: “The personal testimony given by myself and Kerry Hine, who represented the Alzheimer’s Society, on how dementia and Alzheimer’s has affected our loved ones, along with the magnificent music by Tolga Kashif, made the evening one of the most powerful, moving and memorable experiences of my nine years at Bancroft’s.”

The evening started with the cinematic sweep of the Adagio misterioso and Allegro con brio, where Radio Ga Ga and The Show Must Go On were transformed into bold, orchestral statements. The Allegretto of Love of My Life and the Adagio featuring Who Wants to Live Forever and Save Me offered moments of lyricism. Movement V built to a dramatic peak with Bohemian Rhapsody, the rhythmic drive of We Will Rock You, and the triumphant We Are the Champions, leading into the calm, reflective finale.

In aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, thank you to everyone who joined us on this brilliant evening.
