U11 Girls’ Football Team Triumph in Essex County Cup Debut
The Bancroft’s Lionesses U11 girls’ football team made an impressive debut in the Essex County Cup, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory against a strong and fast Benyon School side.
In what was a tightly contested match, both teams displayed fantastic skills and determination, but it was the Bancroft’s Lionessess who managed to clinch the win and advance to the next round.
Our girls showed great composure, staying well organised and disciplined in their play. Miss Kelly, who is the Head of Girl’s Games at the Prep School, was particularly impressed with the girls’ calm nature of play, and them not panicking even when they were put under pressure with their defence. Benyon were physical but our girls’ and in particular the Prep 1s who were playing up a year (Ottilie, Delia, Bella and Shyla), rose to the challenge, going shoulder to shoulder at each and every opportunity!
The key moment of the match came in the first half when Ottilie found the back of the net, in a well-placed lob over Benyon’s tall goalkeeper… 1-0!
Throughout the second half, Benyon continued to push for an equalizer, but our girl’s defense and in particular, Arabella and Tanvi, stood firm. It was a game of excellent teamwork with all pupils playing their part, which maintained the lead and much to the delight of the attending parents.
This victory means that our girls now advance to the next round, where they will face the winner of Benhurst vs. West Leigh, which is being played later this month. Our next game will be played at home, giving our girls a great opportunity to further build on their success at the Bancroft’s fortress.
Miss Kelly and the girls would like to extend their thanks to Eva Jaiswal for refereeing the match. As a qualified referee, Eva was the ultimate role model for all girls on the pitch and we look forward to having her involved in future matches again.
Well done again girls!
