U13 Essex Tennis Champions

Congratulations to our U13 girls’ tennis team of Simran, Lottie, Maanvii, Sienna and Avneet who have become the U13 Essex Champions in Schools Team Tennis!

The girls competed in an area round robin competition with four players each playing a singles match and then pairing up for doubles. They secured wins over Brentwood (4-2), St Paul’s (6-0), Cumberland (4-2) and then after a 3-3 draw with Clapton A team they won in a very exciting “shoot-out” tiebreak! This put them through to the semi-final against Clapton’s B team which they won 5-1 to go into the finals with New Hall.   The final was a daunting event for the girls: New Hall have a very good record in these AEGON team events and plays tennis throughout the school year.

Both Sienna and Avneet won their singles and doubles together and it was Simran and Maanvii who came up with the final win in their doubles: a 6-4 win after being down the whole way until they moved ahead at 5-4 and then closed it out well in the final game.  This meant that Bancroft’s finished as the 4-2 victors.  Unfortunately, Lottie was injured for the final but she came and supported her fellow players as she had played in all the previous rounds.

Although Bancroft’s went into the final as the underdogs, they emerged as the Champions!  The girls now progress through to the Regional Finals in the autumn at Redbridge Sports Centre. This was a great way to end another very busy tennis season at Bancroft’s.

I am delighted with what the girls have achieved this season. They have worked ever so hard in training and the matches, supporting each other on and off court so it was a genuine team victory.
