U15 Girls Cricket – Our Essex Cup Journey
We opened the season with a good win against Brentwood School in May, a strong team performance for our first game back.
All the girls contributed to the victory, with a strong bowling and batting performance from the team at Brentwood school that would mark the beginnings of our adventures as a team over the season. The team then went on tour to the Netherlands, gaining valuable experience against overseas opposition. We took the skills and the experiences from the tour into the latter stages of our cup competition.
Having progressed to the final, the team came back together one last time last week for our biggest match yet: against Felsted U15s. We lost the toss and got put into bat first. We ended up with 76 runs on the board to defend for the title, having lost some early wickets. That said it was a great effort from the girls having to adapt to the pitch and batting environment.
Determined and raring to go, we headed out onto the field. We kept our fielding especially tight and with an impressive bowling performance from everyone we demolished Felsted’s top order early in the innings, with wickets from Alayna, Bea, Iso and Ellora. Unfortunately it felt as though the 76 runs had come too soon for Felsted, however we held them needing 1 run for 2 overs, with superb death bowling from Aryaa to keep us in the game for longer!
Despite our best efforts in the field, Felsted won in the 19th over of the innings, claiming the county cup title. Nevertheless, I am so proud of this team and how far we have come over the season. Everyone contributed in the final, and second in Essex is something we should be incredibly happy about and proud to celebrate.
The journey has not been easy at times, but we have pushed through as a team and the memories we have made along the way will stay with us forever!
Thank you so much to Mr Greenidge, Mr Foley and Mr Chopra for your support and hard work this year, it has been very much appreciated by all of us. Until next season…
