Finalist: Pastoral Care Champion 2025

4th September 2025 Whole School
Bancroft’s has started the new school year with some fantastic news: we’ve been named one of the top three finalists in the School House Magazine Pastoral Care Champion Award 2025.

This award celebrates schools where pastoral care is more than a programme or policy.

At Bancroft’s, it’s part of everyday life, the way staff, parents and pupils consistently notice, support and look after one another. We’re very proud to be named in the final three.

Our Deputy Head Pastoral and Designated Safeguarding Lead , Mrs Elizabeth Channer said:

“What an exciting honour for all the staff at Bancroft’s, who care deeply about our pupils. The pastoral role can be challenging, often characterised by difficult conversations and uncomfortable truths. Sometimes there is no right answer, perhaps the hardest thing of all, but the moments of pupil growth and self-realisation, confidence and burgeoning maturity are the ultimate reward.

What greater privilege could there be than being part of a child’s journey through school, with all the attendant hurdles of modern adolescence?

When it comes to pastoral care, ethos trumps gimmicks and fancy facilities. It is an invisible thread, woven into the fabric of a school. It cannot be manufactured, but springs from an authentic sense of community.”

The overall winner will be announced later this year in the Scholarships, Bursaries and Champions edition of School House Magazine.
