Meet Tina: Our Organisational Anchor
From behind-the-scenes planning to working closely with pupils, parents and staff, Tina Lincoln plays a vital role in making school life run smoothly.
As PA to the Academic Office, she’s involved in almost every part of the Bancroft’s day, and after six years, she knows the rhythms of the school better than most.
What does your role involve day to day?
A big part involves communicating with parents throughout the year, whether it’s about subject choices, surveys, reminders, or general academic information. My work tends to follow the shape of the school year and is operational focused. I plan academic trips, sort out room bookings and make sure timetables fit together. I also help with admissions and exams, being involved right from when a pupil joins the school to when they leave. I liaise with Admissions, Heads of Department, Operations, Maintenance, and often the Marketing team too.
Has your role changed over time?
Yes, I think it naturally evolves. When I joined, it was just before COVID, so that really shaped the first year. Like many people, I had to learn to be flexible, and some of the changes we made back then, like moving to online appointment systems for parents’ evenings have actually stuck because they work well.
You’ve had quite an international background—can you tell us more?
I’ve had a bit of a nomadic journey! I lived in Mauritius for eight years, then France for two, and then Dubai for eight years. Before all that, I worked for British Airways in various departments, including Public Affairs and IT. When I was in Dubai, I moved into education and worked for a large corporate education provider. That’s where my shift into the education sector really began.
Wow! So that’s what led you into school life?
Yes, I really enjoyed it. When we came back to the UK, I worked briefly at a special needs school before joining Bancroft’s. That role gave me valuable insight into the UK education system and helped bridge the gap from international to local schooling.
What do you enjoy most about your role at Bancroft’s?
I like that it’s varied. While there’s a structure to the year, no two days are the same. I often get pulled into different tasks or conversations, and I like that flexibility. It’s great to be part of a team that ensures things run smoothly.
And the most challenging part?
Probably managing the crunch points in the year, like the run-up to internal exams or organising parents’ evenings. There are lots of moving parts and communication to get right, especially in the lead-up to Christmas when everything ramps up.
Is there a moment that stands out from your time here?
I always end up getting involved with the staff Christmas lip sync video. I slightly dread it a bit in the run-up, as I don’t usually like being on camera, bit it’s worthwhile when you see the finished version!
And finally, what does the Bancroft’s community mean to you?
It’s a really strong community. You feel it especially in the challenging times, people pull together, and there’s real support among the staff. I’ve also been really impressed by the students, especially the Sixth Formers I speak to at parents evening, they’re so mature and confident, and it’s a real testament to what the school offers them.
It was lovely to talk to you Tina! Thank you, for giving us a glimpse into the work you do for us behind the scenes.
