Tennis is a vibrant and inclusive part of sport at Bancroft’s, offering pupils of all ages and abilities the chance to develop skills, enjoy competition and take part in a strong programme of fixtures, tournaments and coaching.
Participation and Fixtures
Bancroft’s regularly fields girls’ and boys’ teams at U12, U13, U14 and U15 levels, with Senior pupils competing in the U18 AEGON Team Tennis Tournament.
- Home matches are played at West Grove on our seven hard courts
- Regular friendly fixtures take place against schools such as Chigwell, Forest, Highgate, Queenswood and New Hall
- Inter house competitions run across the year groups, encouraging wide participation
We also enter multiple boys’ and girls’ teams into the Year 8 and Year 10 AEGON Team Tennis Tournaments, giving pupils valuable experience in both singles and doubles play.
Competitions and Events
A girls’ squad is entered annually into the Queenswood East Region Tournament, providing high quality competition against strong opposition. The summer term concludes with our Inter Year Doubles Championships, a much loved event featuring players from the Prep School through to the Sixth Form.
Since 2017, Bancroft’s has run its own Road to Wimbledon singles tournament for U14 pupils. As part of the largest junior tennis competition in the UK, this event gives players the exciting opportunity to progress through the stages and potentially compete at the All England Club.
Player Development
Bancroft’s has a long history of producing exceptional tennis players, with several pupils going on to compete at national and international level and even progressing to the professional circuit. The school encourages every player to develop at their own pace, whether they are complete beginners, committed club players or athletes with aspirations to represent Essex or Great Britain.
Our Philosophy
Our aim is simple: to ensure tennis is enjoyable, accessible and rewarding for all. The social side of the sport is valued as highly as the competitive side, and the Bancroft’s Tennis Club prides itself on being inclusive, supportive and open to players of every age and ability.
