DELE Spanish Success

3rd March 2025 Whole School
Eleven of our Fifth Form and two Lower Sixth pupils have successfully passed the DELE Escolar A2/B1 exam that they sat at the Instituto Cervantes in London.

The DELE certificate is an official qualification issued and recognised by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport of Spain. It is one of the best ways to obtain an international qualification that certifies fluency and proficiency in Spanish.

Two of our pupils shared their thoughts on the whole process:

Caiden – “The DELE exam preparation process was both gratifying and difficult. It pushed me to expand my vocabulary, refine my listening skills, and build confidence in speaking Spanish. At first, the thought of the exam was intimidating, but with consistent practice, I gradually became more prepared. Looking back, this experience has not only strengthened my Spanish but also deepened my appreciation for the language, and it has motivated me to continue learning it.”

Ayushi said: “When we first began working towards the DELE qualification, we found it quite challenging as a group. Certain aspects differed significantly from the usual GCSE format, pushing us beyond our comfort zones and truly testing our abilities. However, we embraced these challenges as an opportunity to learn and refine our Spanish skills. Without a doubt, the DELE exam has strengthened my abilities and will give me an advantage in my upcoming GCSE.”

Mr. Urreaga Gorostidi, our Head of Spanish, also expressed his pride in this success.

“This is a significant achievement for our pupils in their Spanish language journey. The examination is a rigorous challenge that demands perseverance, determination, and independent learning. Our pupils have embraced this opportunity with enthusiasm, attending weekly preparation lessons and working diligently to refine their Spanish language skills.”

The school, and the Spanish Department in particular, is incredibly proud of our pupils for their dedication and success in this prestigious qualification. Their commitment to excellence reflects our high standards and the supportive learning environment we strive to create. This achievement also puts them in good stead to pursue their A Level studies in Spanish, where they will continue to develop their linguistic skills, leaving school with advanced proficiency in Spanish and a deep knowledge of Hispanic culture.

Well done to all our pupils on this achievement!
