Football

Head of Football: Marc Wardley

Football at Bancroft’s has grown rapidly in recent years and is now one of the school’s most popular and dynamic sports.

Facilities

  • Re introduced in 2009, the programme now benefits from excellent facilities, including:
  • Two full grass pitches at West Grove
  • Exclusive access to a 4G artificial pitch twice a week
  • Seventeen acres of playing fields
  • A CrossFit gym and weights area for strength and conditioning
  • An indoor swimming pool for low impact fitness training

These resources create a well equipped and supportive environment for players at every stage.

Coaching

Football at Bancroft’s is led by Marc Wardley, a UEFA A Licence Coach. The programme prioritises skill, awareness and teamwork, values that reflect the spirit of the school as much as the game itself.

The dedication of staff and players has brought strong results, including the First XI reaching the ISFA Bowl Final in 2024, a first in the school’s history.

Football Across the School

  • Football is firmly embedded in the games curriculum from Prep through to Senior School.
  • More than 120 Prep School pupils play after school each week
  • Teams compete in local and Essex cup competitions, including U11 tournaments
  • Senior School teams play regular fixtures against local rivals and leading independent schools

Girls’ Football

A commitment to equal opportunity has helped the sport flourish for all pupils. Under the guidance of Ms Kelly, girls’ football has grown significantly, with the same access, coaching and support as the boys’ teams. Both programmes continue to develop strongly, creating opportunity for every player.
