Winner: Pastoral Care Champion 2025
We are delighted that Bancroft’s has been recognised for the quality of our pastoral care. It is a privilege that speaks to the care and commitment shown every day by staff across the school.
Our Deputy Head Pastoral, Elizabeth Channer, described the recognition as “an exciting honour for all the staff at Bancroft’s who care deeply about our pupils”.
She acknowledged that pastoral work is rarely straightforward. “The pastoral role can be challenging, often characterised by difficult conversations and uncomfortable truths. Sometimes there is no right answer, perhaps the hardest thing of all. Yet the moments of pupil growth, self-realisation, confidence and burgeoning maturity are the ultimate reward.”
She added that genuine care cannot be packaged or staged. “When it comes to pastoral care, ethos trumps gimmicks and fancy facilities. It is an invisible thread woven into the fabric of a school. It springs from an authentic sense of community.”
We are grateful to School House Magazine for this recognition and proud of the staff and pupils who give our pastoral life its strength and meaning.
