A Wizard Show at the Prep
The annual Prep 2 production has become one of the undoubted highlights of the Prep School calendar. Shortly after Christmas, the whispers and rumours about what musical will be presented this year begin. Nerve wracking auditions follow along with hours of rehearsals. This year's production was a true classic: “The Wizard of Oz”. This is such a well loved and iconic musical that we wondered whether our young performers would do it justice. We needn’t have feared as, once again, the Prep pupils excelled themselves to stage a truly wizard production.
The two casts gave four memorable and enthusiastic performances to family and friends, as well as matinees to our Thirds (Year 7) from the Senior School and the rest of the Prep
From the opening monochrome moments in Kansas, through Dorothy’s arrival in colourful Munchkinland and her journey to find the Wizard of Oz, it was clear that the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They threw themselves into their chararacters, be that Dorothy, the cackling Wicked Witch of the West, the lovable Cowardly Lion or Dorothy’s loyal canine companion, Toto. Their months of hard work were well rewarded by the laughter and cheers from the audience at every one of the shows.
Huge thanks must go to director, Miss Adams, and to Mr Baum, the Musical Director, as well as to all the other members of the Prep team whose contributions were invaluable.
I hope all the other Prep 2s enjoyed The Wizard of Oz as much as I did. It was four magical evenings that we will never forget. And as Mr Layburn said, “This is really what education is all about!”
