Alphas Transported Back to Ancient Egypt
Our Alpha (year 3) pupils had a fun and fact filled day learning about the Ancient Egyptians courtesy of Freshwater Theatre Company last week.
The children were asked to come in costume and we saw a great array of Pharaohs, Cleopatras, priests and priestesses, a couple of mummies and even a sphinx! During the interactive show, they met explorer, Daphne Witherspoon, who, with the pupils’ help, called up various Egyptian characters: such as a priestess and Tutankhamun. Each character explained different aspects about Ancient Egyptian life, conveying a multitude of fascinating facts (for example, did you know the used bread as money?). Unsurprisingly learning about mummification proved very popular while some children enjoyed “the dancing curse” (Sureena) and learning about “different gods and Pharaohs” (Hana). The show was followed up by workshops. All the children agreed that it was a great and different way of learning; Tristan said, “I liked it when listened to the stories and I learnt so much especially about the first woman pharaoh.”
I learnt lots about Egyptians especially when we danced and heard about mummification!
