Arkwright Scholars

arkwright_webCongratulations to OIiver Hague, Nicholas Slack and Charles Blake, who have been awarded prestigious Arkwright Scholarships.  The three  boys were selected to receive the awards after successfully passing the Arkwright Aptitude Paper demonstrating flair and originality in solving Engineering Design problems and presenting GCSE work to a panel of interviewers at a UK Universities.  A team exercise presented by each of the Universities provided candidates for the Scholarships with an experience of the challenges and excitement of engineering related careers.  There were over 900 applicants for the awards this year from 256 schools.

The Scholarships will be formally presented at a ceremony hosted by the Institution of Engineering and Technology during half term, when the boys will have an opportunity to meet their sponsors and other scholars.

The Arkwright Trust was founded in 1990 and supports promising young engineers during their A Levels; the students also carry the status of “Arkwright Scholar” into university. The Scholarships are supported by individuals, companies, institutions and the services.  Major sponsors include: Rolls Royce, Balfour Beatty and the Royal Air Force.  Charles is being sponsored by BT Innovate and Design, Oliver by the TTP Group plc and Nicholas by The Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers
