Best Ever A Level Results!

There was much cause for celebration this morning as the Upper Sixth discovered the results of their hard work over the past two years!

In a year when reports indicate that results nationwide have flattened out, it is great to report that our pupils have seen the best ever set of A level results.  An impressive 91% of all exams have been awarded grades A*, A or B: showing an increase from 87% last year.  The number of A*s awarded was up from 21% to 24%, well above the national average of 8%.

Almost half of the year group (54 out of 112)  achieved 3 or more A* or A grades.  with six talented and hard working students with  four or more A*s.alevelsweb7  Ayako Henson gained five A*s at A Level and an A* in her EPQ (Extended Project Qualification); she is off to Cambridge to read Geography.  Liam Flynn and Arun Kirupakaran  both achieved four A*s and are destined for Cambridge where they will be studying Medicine.  Amar Sood  is off to read Computer Science at Trinity College, Cambridge.  Both Luca Mariano  and Tanvi Raje, also with  four A*s each, are heading for Imperial College, London to read Mathematics.  The School sees sixteen of its pupils progressing to either Oxford or Cambridge this year and thirteen pupils will be studying medicine (including dentistry and vet science)

Head, Mary Ireland, said that the pupils are to be congratulated on their fantastic achievements and hard work,  “This has been a particularly stressful year for Sixth Formers, in which we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of students applying to universities, together with an inflexibility shown by  universities over offers because of the government  capping places.  Unfortunately, this has led to a situation where lots of really good students could miss out on their places.   The pupils should be very proud of their achievements.  We wish them all the very best for the future.”
