Empowering Future Scientists at Cambridge University
Our Physics Department recently spearheaded two educational excursions to Cambridge University with the goal of motivating students to consider studying Physics at university level.
The first trip, on the 6th of February, took 10 boys to Churchill College to participate in the Cambridge Physics Experience. Following this, on the 20th of February, 6 girls were hosted at Murray Edwards College as part of the ‘Girls into Physics’ initiative. These visits were designed not just as field trips but as immersive educational experiences, aiming to spark a passion for Physics among our students.
The agenda for both days was packed, running from 10 am to 4 pm, and included an array of activities such as an introduction to the Cambridge application process, a tour of the respective colleges, a Physics lecture, practical sessions at the Cavendish Laboratory, and problem-solving exercises using the Isaac Physics platform.
These efforts reflect Bancroft’s commitment to promoting gender diversity in STEM fields, especially in Physics, and aim to inspire a wider range of students to explore these subjects at university.
