Girls’ sports successes

U16+Netball+SquadThe past weekend was a notable one for girls’ sport at Bancroft’s, with successes in netball, hockey and trampolining.

In the County (Essex Metropolitan) Round of the National Schools Netball Tournament, all three of our teams performed well with both the U16 and U14 team finishing as winners of their groups and the U19 team coming joint second.  All three team progress to the Regional Round, which will be held on January 31 2010 at Lady Eleanor Holles School, Hampton.  Miss Telford commented that this is the first time she can remember having three Bancroft’s teams progress so far in the annual competition.

A girls’ U14 team comprising of players from Bancroft’s and Old Loughtonians Hockey Club travelled to Spain to play in the “Tournament of the Immaculate” held at the Polo Club, Barcelona.  The girls played impressively in this annual, international competition, which included major teams from the UK, Spain, Italy and Russia.  In the group stages they beat both the Club de Campo (Madrid) and RC Polo (Barcelona), narrowly missing out on a slot in the final.  They were placed overall third after winning their bronze playoff game.

Meanwhile, closer to home, both the U13s and the U15s hockey teams remain unbeaten this season.

In the London Round of the BGSA National Schools Trampolining Competition, Bancroft’s girls performed well in all age groups.  Our U11, U15 and U19 teams were all placed second in their age groups and so qualify for the next round.  In the individual competitions, Ellie Masters was placed 2nd in the U13 Competition and Ellie Prideaux was 2nd in the U15 Competition.  They also progress for the next round.  Special mention must go to Aimee Lee Tucker who was placed 5th in the U19 Elite Competition.
