Global Student Forum

Global_Student_forum_photo_SmallLast Tuesday six members of the L6 Religious Studies group attended this year’s “Global Student Forum” which was entitled ‘Education Beats Poverty’.  The forum is an annual high-profile event: one of the major sponsors is the Department for International Development, Steven O’Brien, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for International Development, was a speaker and Queen Rania of Jordan sent a video message.  Some of the Bancroftians met the former child soldier and international Reggae singer/songwriter, actor and political campaigner Ben Okafor from Nigeria, who spoke at the conference.   The conference aimed to inspire and equip sixth formers from all over the country to educate their peers about why 72 million children are denied a primary education and what can be done about it.  The delegates now hope to pass their knowledge onto their peers through assemblies, workshops and PSHE lessons.  The Rev Moore said that it may even be possible for the students to go into local primary schools to share their knowledge.
