Inaugural lecture

lecture_004_smallShortly before Christmas, the Master of the Drapers’ Company, Professor Graham Zellick CBE , gave the inaugural lecture, Miscarriages of Justice,  in our new lecture theatre.

Whilst Chairman of the Criminal Cases Review Commission Professor Zellick, who has had a distinguished career as an academic lawyer,  was charged with investigating wrongful convictions. In an interview with The Independent newspaper he argued that, “It is far better that 10 guilty men go free than one innocent man is wrongfully convicted.”

The lecture was warmly received by an audience of staff and Sixth Formers, including visitors from Woodford County High School.  Mrs Taylor said, “The lecture was really interesting; Professor Zellick conveyed a great sense of vision and humanity.  His delivery was superb, he spoke with very few notes but was able to make complex cases accessible to the audience.”  After the lecture, Professor Zellick talked to and answered questions from Sixth Formers, many of whom are hoping to study law.
