Joel Cannell Reaches European Finals
While many of us were focusing on Andy Murray last week as the face of British tennis, Joel Canell (RS) was playing as the British no 1 for Great Britain’s team in the qualifying stages of the U14 Boys European Summer Cup (26-28 June, Belgium).
The GB team finished top in their group with convincing victories against Sweden and the Netherlands and so qualified for the finals in Magaluf. Unfortunately, the GB boys didn’t fare so well in the finals; Romania was the winner with Spain second. Joel also won all of his singles matches and defeated the No. 1s from Sweden, Croatia and the Netherlands. Later this summer, Joel will be competing as one of two GB boys in his age group in the European Junior Championship. We wish Joel luck in all his summer competitions.
