Olympic Week at Prep
<p style=”text-align: center;”>
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>Prep pupils have just marked the Olympics in style with a whole week of Olympic themed activities. The week started on Monday 11 June with all the children dressed in red, white and blue holding an Opening Ceremony with the highlight being a fantastic drumming display by the Prep 1 and 2s.
<p style=”text-align: justify;”><img style=”margin-right: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px; float: left;” src=”images/stories/Bancrofts_prep_drumming_1web.jpg” alt=”Bancrofts_prep_drumming_1web” width=”198″ height=”148″ />During the morning they took part in drumming workshops led by Marc Cecil of Rhythm Connections; each class had just 30 minutes to work together using a variety of percussion instruments from Africa and South America before they all came together as a group for an amazing 15 minute performance. Marc said that he took his inspiration from the rhythms of Brazil – the morning was like a samba school in miniature – although Rio de Janerio’s Carnival involves six months of practice, while our children had just 30 minutes! Even in such a short time the result was amazing, they came together showing the power of teamwork and working together to put on a fantastic performance. One of the members of staff described it as “The best workshop” she had ever seen.
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>After the Opening Ceremony the whole school had the chance to listen to the Olympic experiences of Mike Costello an athletics commentator for BBC Radio. Mike has commentated on five games and is looking forward to being part of the BBC’s team at the Olympics and Paralympics this summer.
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>During the rest of the week the children worked on themes associated with the Olympics. Each year groups had a special topic: such as the Paralympics or the Ancient Games. All lessons were adapted to fit these topics.<img style=”margin-bottom: 5px; margin-left: 5px; float: right;” src=”images/stories/Bancrofts_prep_dancing_web.jpg” alt=”Bancrofts_prep_dancing_web” width=”186″ height=”248″ />
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>The week ended on Friday 16 with children and staff dressing to represent the colours of the Olympic rings. A 3D aerial photograph of the rings was taken as a memory forever! The day ended with a Closing Ceremony, where the children performed an Olympic themed song written by teacher Louis Taylor learnt in their music lessons over the course of the week as well as a special dance encapsulating the seven Olympic and Paralympic values.
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>Miss Adams, who organised the whole week of events said, “The week meant that all children experienced the Olympics in some way, right the way across the curriculum, with the staff teaching specially adapted lessons to encompass the Olympics. One of the highlights was the song which was specially composed for us: the children loved singing it.”

”We had such a brilliant week and want to thank all out teachers, especially Miss. Adams for making it so much fun. We will remember it forever!” Malini Sachdeva- Masson and Harry Lorrell (Prep 1s).

To see all the fun the children had during this very special week, please follow this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezPKcf9gMMM

<p style=”text-align: justify;”>
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>
