Primary Science Fair

sciencefair2010_095_SmallAround 180 year 5 and 6 children from 11 local primary and prep schools came to  the first Bancroft’s Primary School Fair.  In the Great Hall they visited an array of stands and displays, many of which had a hands-on, element, run by members of the L6 covering all aspects of science. The children also participated in Physics, Chemistry and Biology activities.  For Physics they made and launched rockets on the field; Biology was a variety of “make and take” projects including Darwin (and Mrs Darwin) finger puppets and plant cuttings – ideal for Mothers’ Day.  In the Chemistry Lab, Mr Goalbysciencefair2010_03v2_Small demonstrated a series of exciting chemical changes and reactions which left the children gasping in amazement. Teachers and pupils were equally enthusiastic about the afternoon, “When can we come again?” was a favourite question, while accompanying teachers said the Fair had been incredibly informative and enjoyable.  They also commented on the enthusiasm and knowledge displayed by the Bancroft’s pupils when demonstrating activities or helping the individual school groups.
