RIBI Young Musician of the Year

Many congratulations to Rebeccca Leung (3E) who was awarded the title of Rotary Young Musician of the Year 2011 at the RIBI National Final held at Bedford School on Saturday.  The standard of the competition was very high, but Rebecca, who was the youngest finalist,  took her performance up a gear and wowed the three judges with her interpretation of the third movement of Mozart’s Sonata No 12, and Debussy’s Arabesque No2.  The judges were unanimous in their decision.  Mrs Ireland said that Rebecca played beautifully and deserved her success. 

Rebecca is now eagerly looking forward to next Saturday when she will accompany renowned concert pianist Lang Lang in Bach’s Concerto for Three Keyboards at the Royal Festival Hall.  This is part of his Young Pianists week at the Southbank.  One hundred talented young pianists will play in a massed concert, but Rebecca has also been invited as one of the players showing most potential to accompany the Concerto!
