Success for young poet

old_possumswebCongratulations to Daniel Bainbridge (3S) whose poem “Longing” has been awarded third prize  9 – 11 year old category of the Old Possum’s National Children’s Poetry Competition 2010. Daniel has won a cash prize and two children’s poetry books. He has also won a year’s standard membership of the Children’s Poetry Bookshelf for the School.  Daniel  attended a poetry gala celebration at the Drill Hall Theatre in London  in December which was hosted by   two of  the judges from the competition, Roger McGough and James Carter.   In addition to inspirational and energetic performances from these two experienced poets, the event was also the prize-giving and the winning children received their prizes from Chair of the Judges Roger McGough who said, “It was a delight to witness very young writers discovering the power and the joy of language.”   There were over 3,300 entries in this competition for which pupils were asked to compose a poem on the theme of “Home”.
